NARYN SUKHAIT 2 X 135 MW POWER PLANT PROJECT

LOCATION: Power plant will be located at 5 km south of Naryn Sukhait open pit mine, 52 km from Chinese border point Ceke and approximately 850 km south east from Ulaanbaatar.

  • Naryn Sukhait coal mine is one of two major coking coal exporting mines of Mongolia and the coal export from Naryn Sukhait has started since 2002.
  • Mine production capacity: 10 MT per year
  • Coal reserves mineable by open pit method are estimated at 612 million tons by JORC exploration standard.

KEY TECHNICAL FEATURES

  • Installed capacity: 2 х 135 MW = 270 MW (232 MW net)
  • Coal: 1.2 million tons of second grade coal from open pit mine and from coal washing plant.
  • Technology: Circulated fluidized bed with (CFB) boiler.
  • Cooling system: Air cooling with low consumption of water.
  • Environment criteria: will meet emission standards of Mongolia and World Bank.

Project Permits

  • Feasibility Study for Power plant approved: September 2012,
  • Environmental Impact Assessment approved: December 2012,
  • Power plant construction license obtained: January 2014,
  • Power Purchase Agreement signed between MAK and “National Electricity Transmission Grid” State Owned Stock Company, March 2015.
  • Assembly of Representatives of Citizens of Gurvantes sub-province approved Land planning for the NS Power Plant Project, April 2015.
